The Star-Crossed Fan Page
Before the fans even knew about the fate of the show, they were already preparing for their battle to save Star-Crossed. Several Facebook fan pages, fan Twitter accounts, Tumblr blogs, etc were created and more appear every day. One in particular has become the Facebook home for those that want to keep the show alive. “Stargazers - Fans of Star-Crossed” is a page originally created to keep fans engaged in conversation about the show, but that all changed a mere week into its existence. It is now the central hub where Facebook users can see all of the active campaigns and interact with fellow fans.
The Twitter Movement
While Facebook is where many fans spend their time, it certainly isn’t the only social media outlet where you can find Stargazers working to save their show. The Star-Crossed fandom has a huge presence on Twitter. The tweet counts often reach high into the thousands for only one day, even after hearing that the show was cancelled. From live-tweeting the episodes, to words of encouragement to other fans, the Stargazers have been dominating Twitter feeds for months. Below is a graph that shows the number of tweets by day. The highest point indicates the season finale, and we’ve even seen a recent uptick as the word of our campaigns spread.
This is how Star-Crossed is trending on Twitter compared to two similar shows that were both renewed.

Variety Radio Online Radio Shows
Variety Radio Online began hosting recap radio shows discussing the week’s episode halfway through the short first season. Although it was a new show on their website, the number of listeners wasn’t far off from their other recap shows. As the weeks passed by, more and more people were tuning in to hear real fans go in depth about the episode that had been shown that week.
The news of the cancellation hit one week before their recap show on the season finale. However, this news did not discourage fans of the show or the radio hosts. Their finale recap reached an astounding amount of listeners, more than any of their previous shows. Even though there were no new episodes, The VRO chose to continue on with bonus shows discussing ways to help save the show and even had international callers.

Fan-Made Merchandise
A few weeks into the series, fans began seeking merchandise, however, here was one huge problem: there wasn’t any. The “Stargazers - Fans of Star-Crossed” page on Facebook then created their own fan merchandise. T-shirts were created for the fans in three different designs: one for stargazers, one for fans of Roman and Emery and one for fans of Drake and Taylor. Demand for the shirts was much greater than anticipated and they are continuing to sell to this date.
Imagine the possibilities official merchandise could bring. Mass-producing t-shirts and raising the prices could pull in a huge profit, especially if a vast diversity of products were sold. The fans want the merchandise, so there is plenty of room for financial gain.

Stargazers Against Cancer
In addition to other campaigns, the fans have been active in their charity work. They decided to show how the fandom could unite together for a cause. They selected the American Cancer Society as their charity of choice in honor of Julia, a character from the show, and her story in the premiere episode. Julia was dying of cancer and was running out of time. She was saved by Roman and the Atrian plant, cyper. In real life, these plants do not exist, so fans began to rally to help cancer victims in their own way. T-shirts were designed and donations were accepted. This is an on-going project, but in just two weeks, the fans sold 84 t-shirts and raised $806 for the American Cancer Society.
The campaign is now in it’s second run.
Another campaign, currently in the planning stages, is bracelets, that would sell for $5 each, with a planned $2,000 profit that would be donated to the American Cancer Society as well.

The Fan Video
Before the show was officially cancelled, fans had already begun to submit entries into a fan showcase video. The video was made over the course of a week, intensively edited and then debuted on Twitter and Facebook. The response was instant: fans were touched and encouraged and the fandom gained new members.
The video received around 150 submissions including fan art, photographs of fans and video testimonials. In the end, the video had a run time of 22 minutes, showcased several international fans and explained the reasons why fans love the show. There were several countries that submitted an entry into the video. These countries include, but are not limited to, Australia, the UK, Jamaica, Sweden, India, the Czech Republic etc in addition to the United States. The reasons why fans love Star-Crossed included, but were not limited to, real world issues such as war, racial prejudices, integration, hate crimes, terrorism, and interracial couples, strong women, redemption, the diversity of evil, standing up for what you believe in, and the extended meaning of family. All of these reasons did not even include the ingenious plot lines and the complex character development.

The Petition
The petition for a second season of Star-Crossed was started a few weeks after the show debuted. Before the show was cancelled it had received around 4,000 signatures, however, after the show was was cancelled, it quickly was passed around and signed and now has more than 27,000 signatures. The amount of signatures continues to grow with each passing day. The people that sign the petition are able to leave comments which can clearly be seen as fan testimony explaining what makes Star-Crossed worth fighting for.
